Kiriko Takemura, or Kyary Pamyu Pamyu is the absolute Harajuku cutie. She is known for having an outrageous fashion sense. She started out as a blogger and then started modeling for Harajuku fashion magazines like "Kera!" and "Zipper". Although she is only standing at a height of 1.57 metres, her cutesy and lovable look brought her a measurable amount of success as a model. She then started her own line of eyelashes in collaboration with Eyemazing called "Harajuku Doll". She also appeared at a number of fashion shows at that time. Debuting with "Ponponpon" in July 2011 shot her up to international fame. MTV called it "the craziest music video ever made". As of today, it has a total of 41.9 million view on youtube. It starts out Kyary standing on one leg with her right hand reaching for the sky. A decorated, pink microphone stand slowly emerges from a pink ear and Kyary catches it and starts to sing. Then blah blah blah, messy place, stuff piled up, a plump dancing faceless lady, weird stuff emerges in and out of her window, blah blah blah, pretty normal stuff AND THEN BIRDS FLIES OUT OF THE PINK GIRL AND SHE VOMITS EYE BALLS. OH LAWD. DEAR LAWD. GAWD. And so, go experience this absurdness by yourself! You definitely won't regret it! (Except for the fact that you'd probably be hooked on to this song for the next week or so.)
I'm pretty sure you're like, "WTF BRO?!" right now, but wait, this is what Wikipedia had to say! (When in doubt, always seek wikipedia.)
"The video is a mix of 2D and 3D animation. It depicts two worlds, the first of which was created by Masuda Sebastianone and looks like a room of a girl; the other is her own mental world, where her face is pink-colored.[3] The video starts with a microphone stand coming out of Kyary's ear. The microphone stand is used to imitate the image of Freddy Mercury.
In the meaningless, repetitive chorus, "Pon Pon Way Way Way Pon Pon Way Pon Way Pon Pon", Kyary performs a dance choreographed by air:man with the lyrics inserted as kinetic typography. When Kyary claps during the bridge, slices of bread appear because "pan" is the Japanese onomatopoeia for the sound of a clap, as well as the word for bread." - Wikipedia
AND I HAVE GOOD NEWS. This adorable cutie is back with another SUGOI KAWAII song! It's not absurd and crazy like Ponponpon but it is SUPER adorable. It's a song about her reaching her coming of age day and becoming an adult. In the video, she can be seen consuming a huge amount of alcohol and smoking from a pipe like what adults presumably do. As she drinks more, she "levels up" in terms of adult-ness. It's quirky, it's cute, and actually, it does have some insightful lyrics! From "After having tasted the bitterness of chocolate. Am i a kid? Am i an adult?" to "When i become an adult, will i be happy? When i become an adult, will i be sad?". Many of us think that things will DEFINITELY get better once we grow older and become an adult. But is that true? Well, yeah, when you're in adulthood, you'd probably be more mature, you'd probably get a job with an average monthly income, you'd probably get a girl/boyfriend. Life seems good eh? But being an adult will have its own downsides and upsides. So basically, the problems you are facing now would be the same, except that it would 'evolve' from " Oh. My. God. She so did not say i was copying her fashion style!" to " Oh. My. God. She so did not say i was copying her idea! BITCH, I HAD THAT IDEA FIRST." Haha! Alright, let us all calm down and enjoy this new song of hers!
In all, she's no your average cutie pie. She's cute + wacky + pretty. Hopefully you'd become a Kyary Pamyu Pamyu fan too! So, goodbye you sexy giraffes and stay sexy and adorable ;)
